Relatives claim Pacquiao mansion burglary could be inside job

Relatives of WBA welterweight champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao have claimed that the burglary at his Los Angeles home over the weekend might have been an inside job.

A report by Mariz Umali on "Balitanghali" on Tuesday said Pacquiao's relatives were not dismissing the possibility that one behind the heist was someone familiar with the mansion.

A CCTV footage also shown to GMA News by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) revealed that one of the four suspects was heavily covered with clothes, and, according to Team Pacquiao, seemed too familiar with the location of the CCTV cameras.

The burglar was also way more careful than his three other accomplices, and his face was rarely captured by the CCTVs.

Among the items carted away were expensive shoes and clothes still unused by Pacquiao, and some laptops, according to Pacquiao's relatives.

Pacquiao's aunt Lilia Lao also claimed a small vault beside the dining room also went missing.

Pacquiao's relatives are still waiting for the arrival of Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee in their LA home.

The LAPD's initial investigation revealed about four men ransacked Paquiao's mansion at past 8 p.m. on Saturday and apparently scheduled it ahead of his fight with American boxer Adrien Broner in Las Vegas.

Investigation also showed the suspects returned to the mansion twice, one at 12:27 a.m. based on a CCTV footage.

The LAPD said it was still in the early stages of the investigation and gathering pieces of evidence, including fingerprints to be recorded into their database.

The authorities have also obtained footage from CCTVs not only from Pacquiao's home but also from his neighbors.

Suspects in the crime have yet to be identified.

Lao said it was not the first time that Pacquiao's LA mansion had been ransacked.

It was also ransacked in 2018 while the senator was in Malaysia for a boxing match. That attempt, however, failed.

Meanwhile, the TV report said Pacquiao is still resting after sustaining injuries in the eye from his match with Adrien Broner.

Despite the robbery, Pacquiao remains the list bit anxious and still managed to catch an NBA game with his wife, according to his boxing team. — Jamil Santos/MDM, GMA News
