Ateneo displays dominance anew in UAAP men's swimming

Ateneo de Manila University successfully defended the crown anew and bagged their sixth-straight championship in the UAAP Season 82 men's swimming tournament at the Trace Aquatics Center in Laguna Sunday.

The Blue Eagles garnered a total of 353 points, leaving De La Salle University (343 points) and University of Santo Tomas (322 points) at second and third place, respectively.

Ianiko Limfilipino nabbed gold in the 1500-meter freestyle event after registering 17:27.56. La Salle's Antoine Mendoza captured silver after a 17:30.91 finish, while University of the Philippines' Keane Ting settled for bronze after clocking 17:36.54.

Green Archer Sacho Ilustre dominated the 200-meter butterfly after finishing 2:05.65.  UST's Reynald Cullentas settled for silver with a 2:12.50 finish, while Limfilipino registered 2:13.51 to notch bronze.

La Salle rookie EJ Jayme took home gold after clocking 2:27.31, while Ateneo's Jiron Rotoni finished 2:27.89 for silver. UST's Durham Palfry grabbed bronze after registering 2:27.92.

In the 50-meter backstroke event, Tigershark Christian Anor topped the category after a 27.81-second finish, while Blue Eagle Miguel Barlisan (28.36 seconds) and La Salle's Christian Sy (28.41 seconds) settled for silver and bronze, respectively.

Ateneo's Rotoni bagged the Rookie of the Year plum, while La Salle's Ilustre was hailed this season's Most Valuable Player. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF,
