RP ties Laos, 2-2, in women's soccer at 24th SEA Games


The Philippine women's soccer team tied its first round Group A match with Laos, 2-2, on Monday (December 3) in the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games being held in Thailand, according to results posted on the official website of the event. Phaivanh Souphavanh scored the first goal for Laos in the 39th minute of the match. Patrice Impelido retaliated for the Philippines with a goal in the 48th minute, followed just two minutes later another goal by Edna Agravante. Ting Sengmany managed to tie the match with a goal in the 61st minutes. The two teams got a point each for the draw and are tied in first place. Vietnam is the only other team in Group A. In Group B of the women's football matches are Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar. The RP women's team will face Vietnam on Wednesday (December 5) at 3:15 p.m. (4:15 p.m. in the Philippines) at the Tumbon Mueanpug Stadium in Nakhonratchasima, venue of the women's football matches. The RP women's football team is coached by Marlon Maro and is composed of Josephine Luto, Marilou Rubio, Angeline Impelido, Samantha Nierra, Edna Agravante, Marielle Benitez, Marnelli Dizmon, Rachelle de los Reyes, Ruchell Latap, Patrice Impelido, and Nadia Galang (who's goalkeeper). The team substitutes are Joanna Marina Castro, Merlo Albano, Maniko Alley, Maria Sumalde, Chantal Esperanza, Natasha Alquiros, Maria Mercado, and Karol Joy Barrientos. In Group B, Thailand and Myanmar each have a win, both against Malaysia, at the bottom of the totem pole. The Philippines did not field a team in the men's soccer matches. But it has a men's team joining in the rugby tournament. - GMANews.TV
