RP gets 2 bronze medals in sepak takraw at SEA Games
The Philippine men's and women's sepak takraw teams each got a bronze medal in the hoop event of the sport on Thursday at the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. The gold in both the men's and women's hoop events went to Thailand. Myanmar also got the silver in both divisions, according to results posted in official site of the event. Sharing third spot with the Philippines an also getting a bronze medal in the men's event was Indonesia. Also getting a bronze in the women's event was Vietnam. The hoop event of sepak takraw, a sport native to Southeast Asia, called sipa in the Philippines, calls for players to kick the ball into a basket-shaped net suspended 5 to 6 meters from the ground. The two bronzes brought to seven the total medal so far garnered by Filipino athletes in the biannual 11-nation event. On the same day, cyclist Joey Barba won a gold medal in the downhill mountain bike event.
