Meet the Pinays who showed some serious girl power in SEA Games 2019

Several of the Philippines' best female athletes made "herstory" at the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Here are just some of the Pinays who showed some serious girl power and made their country super proud:

1. Agatha Wong (Wushu)

The "Philippine Wushu Queen" defended her crown in women's taolou taijiquan. She also won the gold in the taolu taijijian event.

Agatha also proved she can put up a fight in more than one way.

The 21-year-old stood up to her online critics who questioned her nationality because of her Chinese last name. She told them, "Nanalo ako dahil Pilipino ako, at lalaban ako."

2. Kristina Knott (Track and Field)

26-year-old Kristina Knott set a new SEA Games record of 23.07 in the women's 200-meter heat, bypassing Lydia de Vega's 33-year-old record of 23.35 seconds and Thailand's Supavadee Khawpeag's 2001 record of 23.30 seconds.

Kristina also broke her own record that same day.

She claimed victory with a sensational performance of 23.01 seconds in the finals.

3. Jamie Lim (Karatedo)

The daughter of PBA legend Samboy Lim has proved that she has both brains and brawn.

She won a gold medal in SEA Games women's +61kg kumite final against Indonesia.

She also just graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Mathematics at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.

4. Daniela Dela Pisa (Gymnastics)

This 16-year-old cancer survivor struck SEA Games gold in the hoop event of the rhythmic gymnastics competiton.

She was only four years old when she was diagnosed with stage 2 ovarian cancer.

Her career almost ended because she had to stop training, but Daniela dove right back into gymnastics after going through a few months of treatment and being declared cancer-free!

5. Christine Hallasgo (Marathon)

The young runner finished first in the 42-kilometer race, pulling a major upset over fellow Pinay Mary Joy Tabal, who settled for silver.

But did you know? Christine used to train using secondhand shoes bought from ukay-ukay shops.

"Nakakasuot po ako ng mga branded na sapatos pag may laro po ako tapos may premyong sapatos po na mga branded," she shared.

6. Hidilyn Diaz (Weightlifting)

The Pinay Olympian bagged her first SEA Games weightlifting gold medal in the women's 55-kg division.

This was a huge feat for Hidi. She was not given a chance to compete in the 2017 SEA Games after the host country, Malaysia, scrapped the women's weightlifting event that year.

Nevertheless, the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist competed in the 2007, 2011, and 2013 SEA Games, and won two silvers and a bronze. This time, she's coming home with gold!

7. Kristel Macrohon (Weightlifting)

Kristel Macrohon captured her first SEA Games gold medal after ruling the women's 71-kg category.

Macrohon's feat produced the Philippines' second weightlifting gold medal!

8. Josie Gabuco (Boxing)

This Filipina boxer bagged her fifth SEA Games gold medal.

She won the match against Indonesia's Endang Endang in the women's light flyweight division via unanimous decision.

9. Nesthy Petecio (Boxing)

This world champion punched her way to a SEA Games gold medal.

She won via unanimous decision against Myanmar's Oo Nwe Ni in the women's featherweight finals.

Of course, we should be proud of all the exceptional athletes who did their best for the homeland as it hosted the monumental sporting event.

You go, girls!
