RP's Taino faces top Thai in q'finals of SEA Games men's tennis
Eric Taino of the Philippines defeated Do Min Quanh of Vietnam, 6-2, 6-1, and advanced to a quarterfinal showdown with Thai top seed Danai Udomchoke in the men's tennis singles of the 24th Southeast Asian Games on Monday in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The Filipino netter took out the Vietnamese in 48 minutes and had plenty of steam to spare to team up with Diane Matias in the mixed doubles. The duo went on to oust the Malaysian pair of V.Y. Thinathan and Balakrishnan, 6-2, 6-2, and booked a spot in the mixed doubles quarterfinals, according to a report issued by the Philippine delegation. Standing in Taino's way in his advance to the men's singles semis on Tuesday is Udomchoke, who swept aside Cambodia 's Orn Sambat, 6-0, 6-1. Former age-group standout Czarina Mae Arevalo bowed out of contention in the women's singles after 1-6, 3-6 beating from Thailand 's Luangnam Nudnida.
