Pinoy cyclist wins; RP gets 27th gold but stays in 5th at SEA Games

Cyclist Alfie Catalan snatched a gold medal in the men's individual pursuit on Tuesday, giving the Philippines its 27th at the Southeast Asian Games being held in Thailand. But the Philippines remains in fifth place becauae fourth placer Malaysia is still ahead by three gold medals. Ealier in the day, Julius Felicisimo Nierras Jr. bagged RP's 26th gold in the men's 400-meter track event on Tuesday. So far the Filipinos' medal production by 7:29 p.m. on Tuesday are four gold, seven silver, five bronze – for a total since the start of the game of 27 gold, 39 silver, 58 bronze, or 122 medals. Following are Tuesday's Filipino medalists, according to results posted on the SEA Games website: Gold medalists

  • Paz Amaya in the compound women's individual archery
  • Armando Bernal, Avelino Victorino Jr., Almario Vizcayno, and Wilfredo Vizcayno Jr. for the men's team epee fencing tournament
  • Julius Felicimo Nierras Jr. in the men's 400-meter run of athletics
  • Alfie Catalan in the men's individual pursuit event of cycling

  • Earl Benjamin Yap in the compound men's individual archery
