RP men's, women's teams sweep softball eliminations at SEA Games
Blu Boys and Blu Girls â the defending Southeast Asian (SEA) Games softball champions â are right on track in their title-retention campaigns as both teams swept the eliminations in Thailand, according to a statement issued by the Philippine delegation. The Blu Boys, who trained in Japan before the SEA Games, made their presence felt at the Rajabhat University Football Stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima as they opened with a 10-4 victory over the Thais, followed by an overpowering 22-2 win against Singapore, and posted its 3rd straight victory over chief rivals Indonesia whom they beat 9-2. On Tuesday, the Blu Boys blanked Malaysia, 5-0, to sweep the eliminations. The Blu Boys have also set a record number of 18 homeruns for the four games that they have played. "I believe the team is playing to its capabilities, their morale is high and I do not see any reason why we will not be able to win again the gold medal here with a sweep at that, every game that they play, the boys are gaining more and more confidence, more so after beating Indonesia, " said Jean Henri Lhuillier, president of the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL). The Blu Girls of coach Anna Santiago matched the record of their male counterparts with a victory on Tuesday over Indonesia, 13-2. Earlier, the Blu Girls beat Singapore 8-1 and then walloped the Thais 9-1. - GMANews.TV
