RP female cagers bow to Malaysians, 74-56, at SEA Games
The Filipina cagers chalked of their second loss in three outings at the women's basketball tournament of the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. On Thursday, they bowed to the Malaysians, who dumped an 18-point victory over their heads, 74-56. The Malaysian team relied on three players for double-digit scoring â Siao Foong Chow with 16, Beng Fong Go with 14, and Suik May Kew with 13. The Philippine side, as usual, banked on Joan Grajales, who scored 13 points, and Victoria Brick, who made 10. The rest were almost equally distributed among five players â Cassandra Tioseco and Fatima Tolentino with 7 points each, and Melissa Jacob, Emilia Vega, and Amira Issa with 6 points each. The RP women won their first game with a 12-point lead against the Singporeans. But they lost to the Thais, who beat them with a 24-point lead, 70-54. The loss puts the Filipinas third in the ranking, good for a bronze medal finish. In the lead is Thailand and Malaysia with two wins each and no losses. Singapore brings up the rear with three games lost in as many outings. Malaysia will face Thailand, for the last match of the womens tournament, on Thursday (December 13).
