RP back in 5th after brief stint in 4th place at SEA Games

Tshomlee Go won the gold medal in the men's under-67-kilogram taekwondo bout on Thursday to give the Philippines its 39th gold, which finally lifted the country into fourth place for the first time at the Southeast Asian Games being held in Thailand. But it was a brief stint in fourth as Indonesia, with 41 gold medals, dislodged the Philippines and sent it back to fifth. Go beat Vietnamese Mienh Hieu Nguyen, 8-6, at the Vongchavlitkul Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima. Earlier, the men's basketball team snatched RP's 38th gold, beating host Thailand, 94-53. As of 8:01 p.m. on Thursday, the Philippines has bagged six gold, 20 silver, 10 bronze medals for a cumulative count of 39 gold, 71 silver, and 86 bronze medals, according to results posted in the SEA Games website.
