FEU men, women spikers force sudden-death over rivals

The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws defeated in four-sets the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Spikers, 28-26, 17-25, 25-23, 25-17, to tie Wednesday night their best-of-three 70th UAAP men's volleyball finals encounter at one-game apiece before a big crowd at The Arena in San Juan. Leading MVP candidate Edjet Mabbayad of FEU was named best player of the game after he led the Tamaraws in scoring with 27 points. UST, meanwhile, was led by Reno Roque who scored a team high 15 points for the game. In the women's side, the FEU Lady Spikers defeated the Adamson University Lady Falcons to also forced a rubber-match for the volleyball women's crown. After being defeated in five sets in Game 1 of the Finals last Sunday, the Lady Tamaraws played tremendous ball this time around to conquer their rivals in four sets, 25-18, 16-25, 25-10, 25-21. Prior to their win, the Lady Tamaraws has tasted four-straight setbacks against the Lady Falcons since the first round of the eliminations. Fan favorite Rachel Anne Daquis of FEU was named best player for the game after she scored 18 points for her team. Rissa Jane Laguilles of Adamson, meanwhile, led her team with 15 points. The third and final game of the hotly-contested series in both the men's and women's side will be played on Sunday also at The Arena. Meanwhile, Edjet Mabbayad of FEU was named best scorer and best spiker during the announcement of the individual awards in the men's side of the 70th UAAP volleyball tournament. On the other hand, Ma. Rosario Soriano of Ateneo de Manila University was adjudged as the best scorer with Mary Jean Balse of University of Santo Tomas (UST) as the best spiker in the women's division. The announcement of the MVP award in both the men's and women's side will be conducted after the men's and women's matches, UAAP officials said.
