Noli Eala named new PSC chairman

Noli Eala is set to lead the country's sports affairs as he is named the new Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman under the administration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

The Malacañang announced the development on Tuesday night through a letter signed by Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez.

Eala has been a sports figure for many years now.

He was the sixth commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), serving at the post from 2003 to 2007. Prior to his appointment, Eala has been working as a sports broadcaster for radio program Power and Play.

Eala is also the uncle of Filipina teen tennis sensation Alex Eala, who is representing the Philippines in various international tournaments such as the Southeast Asian Games.

Eala will inherit the position previously held by William "Butch" Ramirez, who played crucial part in a string of Philippine sports success in the past years, highlighted by the gold medal feat of Hidilyn Diaz in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. – RC, GMA News
