For the first time, medalists of the Palarong Pambasa will receive incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced in a video message Sunday, during the opening ceremony of the event.

This includes all medalists in regular sports and paralympic games.

“Masaya akong ibalita sa inyo, sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon maglalaan ang Philippine Sports Commission ng incentive para sa mga medalista sa regular sports at para games bilang pagkilala sa inyong husay, ” Marcos said.

(I am happy to announce to you that, for the very first time, the Philippine Sports Commission will allocate incentives for medalists in both regular sports and para games in recognition of your excellence.)

To recall, medalists usually receive incentives from the Department of Education and their local government units.

Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo, representing the President, attended the opening ceremony of the 66th Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur.

In his message, Lagdameo reported the government’s continuous support for the school sports clubs across the country, noting that more than 6,000 schools have already been equipped with sports supplies and equipment between 2022 and 2025.

He added that more schools are set to benefit from the program this year.

Twenty regional teams composed of more than 13,000 delegates have gathered for the opening event at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Governor D.O. Plaza Sports Complex in the municipality of Prosperidad.

The Palarong Pambansa, known locally as the Palaro Tu Agsur, will run from May 26 to May 30. —LDF, GMA News
