The score hardly matter, but the experience of playing against a top North American football squad will prepare the Philippine Azkals for their future battles. Reigning U.S. Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy, as expected defeated the Azkals, 6-1, in Saturday night's friendly in front of an almost sold-out crowd at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.  The Azkals fought gallantly and even went toe-to-toe with the Galaxy in the first half. David Beckham opened up the scoring for the visiting Galaxy in the 20th minute.  "I haven't done that for years, that was a good goal tonight," said Beckham in the post-game interview. The Azkals had several scoring opportunities, with captain Chieffy Caligdong had a near-goal but his attempt in the  29th minute sailed over the top bar. Mike Magee quickly made it a 2-0 lead for the Galaxy. Phil Younghusband put the Azkals on the scoreboard in the 41st minute with four minutes left before halftime. The Bruce Arena-coached Galaxy then put on an offensive show in the second half with Adam Cristman finding the back of the net twice. Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, also watched the match and was the lucky one who got Beckham's Galaxy jersey. — JVP, GMA News
