In an interview with GMA News' Arnold Clavio on Monday, former Philippine Olympic Committee president Cristina Ramos, daughter of former President Fidel V. Ramos, narrated her experience with Azkals, which served as the basis of her sexual harassment complaint to the Asian Football Confederation.
The incident happened before the Azkals' friendly against Malaysia last February 29 inside the Azkals' locker room at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
In the interview, Ramos explained her purpose as Match Commissioner. Itong team check is a formal procedure. It’s a serious procedure. Walang relevance. It was an irreverent and irrelevant statement." Ramos continued to narrate what happened inside the locker room. "Nung pagkapasok pa lang namin, maingay. Nagtatawanan pa. Walang disiplina, walang respeto. Tumabi sa 'kin sa kanan tapos biglang sinabi na malakas, must be a B cup. Nagtawanan yung mga players," said Ramos. The incident was followed by another encounter, this time with Fil-Spanish mid-fielder Angel Guirado. May malice," Ramos added. During the television interview, Clavio also spoke by phone with Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Secretary General Atty. Roland Tulay, who explained that the complaint is already with the PFF Disciplinary Committee. He added that if proven guilty, the sanctions range from suspension to total ban. "We take complaints like this very, very seriously. The football community takes serious note of complaints especially about racism and of course offenses against women," added Tulay. Azkals Team Manager Dan Palami issued a formal statement Friday, and has since spoken to Ramos about the incident. Sinabi niya nga na nagpapaumanhin siya on behalf of the players and the team. Tinanggap ko on principal ngunit sinaad ko na it doesn't vindicate the players or it doesn't absolve them from the crime," Ramos stressed. — AD/RSJ/YA, GMA News
