Azkals announce friendly against Indonesia in August

The Philippine national men's football team, also known as the Azkals, will have a friendly against Indonesia on August 14, in Indonesia, the Philippine Football Federation announced Monday on the team's official website.

The announcement quotes Philippine Football Federation (PFF) general secretary Edwin Gastanes as saying "The PFF has accepted the invite of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) for a friendly mach between the A teams of Philippines and Indonesia on August 14, 2013 at Solo, Central Java, Indonesia."

The Azkals last fought Indonesia on June 5, 2012, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, in a fight-marred match that saw the home side get reduced to nine men.

Brothers Phil and James Younghusband took care of the scoring, forging a 2-2 draw, as Chieffy Caligdong and Manny Ott were sent packing in the second half.

Since then though, the Philippines has risen to 23rd in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), 144th in the world, while Indonesia is 34 in the AFC< 168th overall. - AMD, GMA News
