AFF gives hosting rights for 2016 Suzuki Cup to Myanmar and Philippines
Two first-timers will be given the honor of hosting the 2016 Suzuki CUp, when the Asean Football Federation gave the rights to Myanmar and the Philippines, the AFF formally announced, Sunday.
In addition, the AFF also said that Cambodia will be hosting the qualifiers.
Myanmar just finished hosting the 27th Southeast Asian Games.
“All I can say is thank you for the trust that has been placed in the PFF and we will work hard to make sure that we deliver a successful event,” said Mariano Araneta, the president of the Philippine Football Federation.
“It is indeed an honor for Myanmar and with the new facilities that have been built, we are very confident that we can do a very good job,” added Zaw Zaw, the president of the Myanmar Football Federation.
The 2012 edition of the tourney was hosted by Malaysia and Thailand, with Singapore besting the Thais 3-2 on aggregate. Malaysia and the Philippines finished as semifinalists.
Next year, the tourney will be in Singapore and Vietnam. - AMD, GMA News
