2014 Street Child World Cup: PHL girls settle for silver

The Philippine girls team had to settle for second place in the 2014 Street Child World Cup, after bowing out to hosts Brazil, 1-0.

“Gutted. It was such a tight game and could have gone either way,” said head coach Roy Moore on Facebook.
 

“A huge thanks to the Brazil team who came over to congratulate and celebrate with the Philippine team. The two teams had become best friends during the tournament and [it] was a brilliant final. Brazil were a class act.”

The Philippine girls had entered the final after dispatching Mozambique 1-0, while Brazil thrashed El Salvador 5-0 in the other semifinal match-up.

The boys’ contingent meanwhile fell in the quarterfinals to Pakistan on penalty kicks. - AMD, GMA News
