UFL: Stallion wins over Socceroo, Archers strike down Kaya FC

UFL action was back at the Emperador Stadium after almost a month-long break. Stallion FC broke Team Socceroo FC, 2-0, while in the second game, Kaya FC lost, 0-2, to Green Archers United FC, Tuesday.

Aly Borromeo started for Kaya FC, while Chieffy Caligdong started for Green Archers United. All the Azkals were accounted for on both teams, but Kaya was still missing Richard Greer, Masanari Omura, and Pablo Rodriguez Aracil to injuries.

It was end-to-end action early in the first half, both teams knowing that winning the game would help in their campaign. Kaya need to win all their games to even get a shot at the UFL League Championship, while on the other hand, the Archers need to win their games to finish  fourth.

There was a good chance for the Archers in the 21st minute, off a free kick. The ball had swung around to avoid the Kaya wall, but hit Chieffy, who seemed to be slightly out of position on the set piece.

It was Kaya’s turn for a free kick in the 32nd minute, but OJ Porteria sent the ball wide.

Robert Lopez-Mendy capitalized on a couple of errors by Kaya for a goal just three minutes later. Anton del Rosario was too high up the pitch and Lopez-Mendy was left unmarked. Kaya keeper Manuel Saubach was also too high up and Lopez-Mendy just sent the ball over the keeper and into the goal.

There was another great chance for the Archers in the 42nd, when Tating Pasilan broke through the Kaya defense, but Saubach was able to stop the strike. The Archers then went on a short rampage, sending in a couple more attempts in the next minute, but Kaya was up to task.

There was a minute of added time tacked on to the first half, but the Archers took it 1-0.

Kaya coach David Perkovic sent on Janrick Soriano and Joven Bedic for Hector Zaghi and Emmanuel Mbata at the start of the second half.

Kaya seemed to have the upper hand early in the second, but this quickly changed, as the Archers began to dominate possession. At the 64th minute though, Lopez-Mendy made it 2-0 for the Archers, off a pass from Manok Simpron.

Coach Perkovic sent on Miguel Tanton for OJ Porteria and later Kenny Daniels for Andrew Liauw. Archers coach Dolfo Alicante sent on Jed Diamante and then later on, Jahn-Jahn Melliza.

In a strange turn of events, Tanton, who came on as a substitute, was again taken off for young Rocky Plaza. The 16-year-old Plaza is a product of the Kaya FC Academy.

With 10 minutes to go, Coach Alicante sent on Shapay Johnson for Chieffy and then later on, Arvin Soliman for Manok Simpron. Diamante had to be replaced in added time because of what looked like a knock to the head. Coach Alicante also sent on Greggy Yang.

Kaya had a better game in the last 10-15 minutes of the game, but it was not enough for them to get a goal.

Global FC now has a better hold on the UFL League Championship, as Kaya FC remains with 40 points to Global’s 47.
