Ceres-Negros in talks to sell football club amid COVID-19 pandemic

The Ceres-Negros Football Club is up for sale.

In a statement posted on its website, the club said it is "in talks with investors who will be taking over the management and ownership" ahead of the resumption of the football season.

With the exit of Leo Rey Yanson, president of the bus company Ceres Transport, the club will no longer be named "Ceres-Negros."

"This is one of the toughest decisions made by Mr. Yanson, whose passion for football was reflected at the way he poured his personal resources and steered the club to unprecedented heights since it was formed eight years ago," the statement read.

The transportation and sports industries are among those severely affected by the disruptions due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Ceres-Negros, however, said that it exerted "best efforts" to compensate its players and staff amid the pandemic.

The club announced that general manager Ace Bright will be the point person regarding the transition to the new management and owners.

"Thank you so much for your love and support to the club. Please continue supporting Philippine football." —MGP, GMA News
