Kaya FC blanks Mendiola FC to complete group stage sweep, enters Copa semis

Kaya FC drubbed Mendiola FC 1991, 6-0, to complete their sweep of the 2021 Copa Paulino Alcantara group stage on Wednesday at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

The victory earned Kaya complete six points in Group B and a ticket to the semifinal round where it will face the second seed team in Group A.

Team captain Jovin Bedic started hot for Kaya FC, converting both the first and second goals in the 11th and 35th minute mark, respectively. Hong Kong-born Japanese booter Ryu Fujii then scored another goal in the 40th to make it a 3-0 cushion for Kaya FC heading into the break.

In the 63rd minute, forward Kenshiro Daniels was successful on his kick, giving Kaya FC a huge 4-0 lead before Daizo Horikoshi got past Mendiola's goalkeeper Kenry Balobo in the 83rd as Kaya recorded its fifth goal.

Carlyle Mitchell went for a header in the extra minutes to close out what has been an impressive outing for Kaya FC.

Kaya FC, the 2020 PFL runner-up, opened its campaign last Sunday with a 2-0 victory over the Azkals Development Team with Horikoshi and Simone Rota converting the goals.

The winner of the tournament will advance to the 2022 AFC Cup.
