PHL Azkals, handball open SEA Games campaign with wins


The Philippine Azkals and the Philippine beach handball team both picked up wins on Friday to open the country's campaign in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The Azkals U-23 defeated Timor-Leste, 4-0, in Group A of the men's preliminary round. Christian Rontini (11'), Dennis Chung (56'), Jovin Bedic (78') and Oskari Kekkonen (81') scored the goals for the national team.

The Azkals will next see action on Sunday when they face Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the Philippine national handball team defeated Thailand, 18-16, 18-16 in the country's first game in the biennial meet.

Filipino kickboxers will also see action starting on Sunday.

The SEA Games will officially open on May 12.
