Philippines downs Australia to open AFF Women's Championship

The rain did not dampen the spirits of the Philippine national women's football team as it scored a win to open their campaign in the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation Women's Championship held in the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Playing their first home game since qualifying for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, the Filipinas took down Australia, 1-0.

Sarina Bolden scored the Philippines' only goal at the 60' mark after a goalless first half.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. The Philippines is grouped with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia.

The Filipinas will go against Singapore on Wednesday.
