Azkals blanked by Thailand for second loss in AFF Cup

Defending champs Thailand blanked the Philippine national men's football team, 4-0, in the group stage of the 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup on Monday in Thammasat Stadium, Thailand.

Teerasil Dangda scored a goal three minutes into the match and doubled the lead at the 41st minute to give the Thais a 2-0 lead at the half.

Adisak Kraisorn scored in the 57th minute before Suphanan Bureerat scored minutes later which eventually capped the scoring spree for the Thais and dealt the Azkals its second loss in the tourney.

With the win, the Thais topped Group A with six points, while Indonesia, who earlier defeated Brunei, 7-0, also have six points. Thailand has a goal difference of +9 while Indonesia has +8.

Meanwhile, the semifinal hopes of the Azkals were put on the brink as only the top two teams of the group will advance to the semis.

The Azkals will wrap the group stage games at home when they play Indonesia on January 2, 2023, 8:30 pm, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
