Filipinas defeat Vietnam, but Myanmar win puts end to PHL's SEAG women's football campaign

The Philippine national women's football team may have had a win, but their campaign in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games ended abruptly as they fell short of advancing to the next round.

The World Cup-bound Filipinas on Tuesday defeated Vietnam, 2-1, on a penalty kick from Sarina Bolden (12') and a goal from Hali Long (83'), with Thi Bich Thuy Nguyen getting the Vietnamese's goal at the 41' mark.

However, a 5-1 drubbing by Myanmar over Malaysia gave the Burmese a higher goal difference which placed them second in Group A behind Vietnam.

Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the crossover semifinals.

Prior to this, the Filipinas lost their first game to Myanmar, 0-1, before winning their second match against Malaysia, 1-0.

The Filipinas previously had a bronze medal in the 2021 edition of the biennial meet.
