Filipinas escape Thailand, advance to SEA Games women’s football gold medal match
The Philippines will have a chance to win its first gold medal in SEA Games women’s football after defeating host country Thailand, 1(4)–1(2), on Sunday in the semifinals of the biennial meet.
Down 0–1, Jael Marie Guy scored the equalizer in the 86th minute to put the Philippines on board. With both teams still level after extra time, the match went to a penalty shootout, where Guy, Alessandra Carpio, Sara Eggesvik, and Hali Long converted their attempts to seal the victory.
The Philippines will face Vietnam in the final on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Philippine women’s futsal team also advanced to the semifinals after a 3–1 win over Malaysia last Saturday.
This marks the first time the national futsal team has reached the final four since it last played for the bronze medal in 2007.
