2025 SEA Games: PH falls to Malaysia in men’s football battle for bronze

The Philippines fell to Malaysia, 2–1, in the men’s football bronze medal match at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games on Thursday in Thailand.

Malaysia struck first in the 28th minute through Sahaludin Hakimi before Rosli Azim scored an own goal to level the match for the Philippines.

Azim, however, made up for his mistake by scoring another goal for Malaysia in the 43rd minute.

The Philippines failed to find the net in the second half, handing the victory to the Malaysians.

Despite settling for fourth place, the team still made history by reaching the semifinals for the first time since 1991.

Prior to this, the Philippines swept Indonesia and Myanmar in the group stage to advance to the semifinals before falling to Vietnam, 2–0, in that round.
