The Philippine Women’s National Football Team, the Filipinas, secured their return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup play-in for the World Cup on Thursday.
After a goalless first half, Angie Beard opened the scoring in the 47th minute off an assist from Jael Guy, while Jackie Sawicki added a second goal to double the lead. The win ultimately sealed the Filipinas’ qualification for the tournament.

Prior to this win, the Philippines opened its AFC Women’s Asian Cup campaign with back-to-back losses to Australia and South Korea before breaking through with a 2–0 victory over Iran to keep its knockout hopes alive.
The Filipinas eventually advanced to the knockout stage, where they suffered a 0–7 defeat to Japan in the quarterfinals, sending them to the play-in round.
