Alex Eala could secure Olympic ticket as early as October in Asian Games
Alexandra "Alex" Eala could secure an Olympic qualification place for the 2028 Los Angeles Games as early as October if she wins the women’s singles gold medal at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan this month.
According to the ITF, the Asian Games, along with the Pacific Games, Pan-American Games, and African Games, form part of the qualification pathway for the 2028 Olympics.
The Asian Games will be the first of the four regional Games to be held, with the other three scheduled next year, meaning Eala has the opportunity to become the first tennis player to secure an Olympic qualification place.
But even without an Asian Games gold medal, Eala could still qualify for the 2028 Olympics through the regular ranking pathway.
A total of 64 athletes in each gender will qualify for the Olympics, with 56 spots awarded through direct acceptance based on the singles rankings as of June 12, 2028.
Currently ranked No. 18 in the world, Eala is well within the qualification threshold but will need to maintain her position inside the cutoff.
