Members of the Philippine delegation who will take part in the 2026 Asian Games opening ceremony on September 19 will wear an outfit showcasing the country’s colors and heritage.

Designed by Filipino designer Francis Libiran, the Malaya barong is made from piña jusi and comes with a cap made of woven paper.

According to Libiran’s page, the design features the word “MALAYA,” the Filipino word for free or independent, written in Baybayin. It also incorporates Kalinga-inspired patterns, as well as the colors and rays of the Philippine flag.

“Together, they tell a story of heritage, strength, freedom, and pride, carried onto the world stage,” the caption said.

Olympic boxing bronze medalist Aira Villegas and young weightlifting star Albert Ian delos Santos will carry the Philippine flag during the opening ceremony.

The Philippines will be represented by a delegation of more than 400 athletes and officials at the Asiad.
