PSC promises support as NCAA officially starts Season 102

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) vowed to continue providing support to the NCAA as the country's oldest league officially kicked off its Season 102 on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio said in his speech during the opening ceremonies that the government agency recognizes the role of the NCAA in nurturing the future sports stars.

"I want to assure everyone, all the NCAA members schools, that the PSC supports the NCAA," Gregorio said.

"Let us work together, let us transform the league in the same manner we are transforming the Rizal Memorial Complex. I just want to stress and emphasize that the PSC recognizes the role of the NCAA as a vital partner in nurturing young talent and sustaining country’s sports pipeline."

Gregorio said the PSC will support the NCAA in its bid to expand its sports lineup, which has already welcomed golf, gymnastics, and esports.

"I-push po natin ang development ng other sports, especially the Olympic sports, in the NCAA," Gregorio added.

"I am so grateful that you have adopted golf, son boxing, gymnastics, and other sports that is medal-rich in the Olympics. I assure that PSC will be here to support you."

Aside from Gregorio, Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza also delivered a speech, with the city working alongside the PSC on the redevelopment of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

The NCAA will hold a number of at the RMSC on October 9.

"We recognize your role in the past 102 years and you can look forward to a more beautiful Rizal Memorial Coliseum in the next 12 months," he said.
