Alex Eala falls to Tatiana Prozorova to exit early in Singapore Tennis Open

Alexandra “Alex” Eala suffered an early exit in the Singapore Tennis Open after falling short against Tatiana Prozorova, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6 in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

Prozorova held an early 3-1 lead in the first set before Eala notched the next four games to claim a 5-3 lead. Prozorova salvaged one more game before seven set points handed the Filipino ace the first set after an hour and six minutes.

In the second set, Eala held a 2-1 lead before Prozorova tied the set. The world No. 18 then pulled away and claimed the next two games, but Prozorova powered through and claimed the next three to take the lead.

Eala, however, salvaged one before Prozorova claimed the next two games and extend the match.

Prozorova banked on her momentum to claim the first two games before Eala took a 3-2 lead. Prozorova then tied the set, before eventually claiming the third set, 6-3.

Prozorova will face Wang Xinyu of China in the quarterfinals.

Eala is expected to next compete for the Philippines at the Asian Games in Japan.
