Here's what's next for Alex Eala after her Asian Games bronze medal run
It's back to business for Alex Eala following her run in the 2026 Asian Games.
The Filipina tennis star fell short of the ultimate prize—a gold medal—after losing to Chinese star and eventual champion Wang Xiyu in the semifinals to settle for her second straight bronze medal.
But the fight isn’t over for the Philippine tennis star as she swings back into action on the WTA Tour.
The world No. 18 Eala is set to see action at the Wuhan Open in China from October 12 to 18. A prestigious WTA1000 event, the Wuhan Open will feature Eala's fellow top-ranked players in defending champion Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Mirra Andreeva.
Eala competed in the same tournament in the past two years but came up short on both occasions. In 2024, she fell to Katerina Siniakova in the first round before failing to reach the main draw the following year after losing to Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in the qualifying round.
This time, though, Eala will make her main draw return as she looks to bounce back from a string of heartbreaking exits in the Singapore Open and the Asian Games.
Aside from the Wuhan Open, Eala is also initially listed in two other competitions in the Asian swing.
The Filipina is currently listed for the Ningbo Open in China and Toray Pan Pacific Open in Japan, both of which are WTA500 tournaments and are crucial to Eala's world rankings.
