Pinoy junior golfers to face Asian rivals at Ayala Greenfield

The country's top junior golfers go up against some of the Asia's best as the Philippine Junior Golf Federation (PJGF) host the 12th Philippine International Junior Golf Championship set January 4 to 6 at the windy course of the Ayala Greenfield Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba, Laguna. PJGF president Edgardo "Tito Boy" Cantada said that guys from Metro Manila, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro will battle 15 players from South Korea, seven from Taiwan, five from Singapore, four from Indonesia, two from Malaysia and one from Thailand in the annual tournament.
“Usually, ours is the kick-off tournament in the Philippines. I intend to keep it that way and the get the ball rolling for local sports, particularly golf,” said Cantada, who owns the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City.
The Cantada Sports Center, recently equipped with modern facilities to handle big events, will actually house the foreigners, including officials and parents. “We’ll make them feel the Filipino care that is revered worldwide,” he added.
January 3 has been reserved as the only practice round also at Ayala Greenfields. The participants will be divided into the different group levels namely: Under-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 and 18-21 for boys plus Under-12, 13-17 and 18-21 for girls. — Adrian Flores/JVP, GMA News
