Patrombon barges into the Israel Futures quarterfinals
By RENEE FOPALAN, GMA News
Jeson Patrombon continued on his impressive run at the 2012 Israel Men's F2 Futures, beating tournament number three seed Antal Ven Der Duim of the Netherlands, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 last Tuesday (Wednesday, PHL time).
"Jeson’s win today is a good and positive indication that we have the skills, talent and perseverance to compete in the pro level and win even if the main competition comes from Europe," said Patrombon's coach Manny Tecson
It was the third three-set match for the Filipino, who has won his fifth straight since the qualifying round.
"This goes to show that our boys are in great shape and their bodies are holding up well and not falling apart. We have been competing well and winning against guys who are more than six feet tall on a daily basis, but we really don’t care about it. I have coached the boys to ignore the height and frame of our opponents and which country they come from because all of these things are already given factors that we have to deal with as professionals. We cannot let the height factor or which country they come from be the reason why we lose a match.
“The bottom line is we will win and lose with the way we play and our belief in our own abilities and strength to win will be the key to our success in the pros," stressed Tecson.
In the quarterfinals, the Iligan native will play Marton Fucsovics, a former juniors world number one player. The tough Hungarian was the Wimbledon Boys' Singles champion two years ago.
Fucsovics also has a 2009 US Open Boys' Doubles Championship and a semifinal appearance at the 2010 Australian Open Boys' Singles under his belt. — AMD/JVP, GMA News
