The Philippines made good use of its homecourt advantage, as it won all five matches against Pacific Oceania in Group II of the Davis Cup.
After Jeson Patrombon and Treat Huey's opening day singles wins, Johnny Arcilla and Ruben Gonzales pulled out a doubles victory against Cyril Jacobe and Daniel Llarenas. The Philippine doubles team had to work hard for their win, overcoming a first set tiebreak loss to capture the next three sets, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).
In the final two singles matches, Patrombon cruised to a straight sets win over Aymeric Mara, 6-0, 6-1, while Johnny Arcilla also emerged victorious against Cyril Jacobe, 6-2 6-1.
The Philippine team now awaits the winner of the Pakistan-Lebanon matchup to determine who it will play in the second round. — Renee Fopalan/AD/RSJ, GMA News
