Golf: Clyde Mondilla, Princess Superal get chance to shine at Montecillo Cup
Dasmarinas, Cavite - With the fancied Rupert Zaragosa out, former national amateur champion Clyde Mondilla and Philippine Ladies Open runner-up Princess Superal are expected to lead the boys and girls teams in the 2nd Montecillo Cup Junior Golf Championship beginning on Tuesday. Zaragosa, winner of the Junior World's 13-14 boys division, was ordered by his doctor to rest for a month after he got into an accident in Cangolf. That leaves Mondilla as the one to carry the leader's role in his last year as a junior at the Orchard Golf and Country Club's Palmer course. The petite but heady Superal of the ICTSI team comes in also as a favorite in the distaff side after finishing second in the Open. Also competing are her teammates. the multi-titled Andrea Unson, Sarah Jane Ababa, and Bianca Pagdanganan plus Sam Martinez. "I believe that we're ready for this week against local and international juniors. Clyde played in the recent PAL Interclub in Davao while Superal and the rest of the girls were part of the Open last January," said Junior Golf Foundation president Luigi Tabuena. Mondilla, playing out of Del Monte, put on a good show at the PAL Interclub and almost towed his team to victory against Cebu. He is hoping to bring that A-game as he teams up with Gio Gandionco and Raymart Tolentino. The 14-year-old Superal has improved a lot since the Open. Her swing is smoother now after correcting her turn on the backswing by ICTSI and womens national coach Bong Lopez. "Yeah, Princess is more than ready. In fact, Andrea, Sarah, Bianca and I have been training hard since February," said Lopez. - AMD, GMA News
