Golf: Gandioco, Superal to lead PHL campaign in Callaway jr worlds

Gio Gandionco and Princess Superal will spearhead the country's campaign in the Callaway Junior World Championship in San Diego, USA this July after they ruled the boys' and girls' Class A of the national qualifying tournament at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite.   Gandionco, though already seeded, solidified his spot in the Philippine contingent as he shot a superb four-under-par 68 to end up with a 298. Joining him in the US trip are Miggy Yee (75-292), Lloyd Jefferson Go (75-294) and Jama Reyes (76-302). Superal zoomed to her third jungolf title this season. She finished with a 75 for 295 followed by Andrea Unson (76-303), Marvi Monsalve (80-306) and Felicia Medalla (74-308) in the four-day qualifier organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP). The battle in the boys' Class B went the way of Raymart Tolentino. The 14-year-old Marist student closed out with a 75 for 298, way above the others that included Kristoffer Arevalo (75-305), Gabriel Manotoc (75-312) and William Lanz Uy (79-315). Christopher Popp (76-306) and Harmie Constantino (79-313) captured slots in the boys' and girls' Class C, respectively. Josh Jorge (76-276), Carl Corpus (71-279), Jolo Magcalayo (70-284) and Justin Magsino (76-292) qualified in the boys' Class D. In the girls' Class D, which played to a shortened par-62, Bernice Ilas (62-247), Nicole Abelar (67-264) and Sofia Legaspi (67-270) will join the U.S. trip. — Adrian Flores/JVP, GMA News
