The Philippine Rugby team had its baptism of fire in their first ever Rugby World Cup Sevens match, falling to Kenya, 45-5, on Friday night in Russia.

Gaz Holgate scored the Volcanoes' only try in the match at the 6:40 mark of the first half, but by then, Oscar Ouma and Felix Ayange had already crossed the Kenyan try line, with Biko Adema converting on kicks on both occasions.

Kenya, which is currently 37th in the world rankings, poured it on in the second half against the 57th-ranked Philippines, with Humphrey Kayange scoring twice, while Collins Injera, Ayange, and Eden Agero got a try each as well.

First for the Philippines on Saturday will be world number seven Samoa. A match against Zimbabwe, a team that sits on the 31st spot, will follow. - AMD, GMA News
