Golf: Arevalo ties for second at Future Champions


Abegail Arevalo scored a one-over-par 73 to place tied for second place after the first round of the Future Champions Golf World Match Play tournament at the St. Marks Golf Club in San Marcos, California.

The ICTSI bet was tied with Alyaa Abdulhanny while Pitsinee Winyarat topped the qualifier with a 72 in the par 71 layout, while Wave Whiston was next with 74.

Arevalo, 14, leveled out with birdies on numbers one, five, and seven, with bogeys on two, six and nine.  She dropped a shot each on numbers 16 and 18 for that 73.

Sofia Chabon, a De La Salle Zobel freshman like Arevalo, had a 77 for a share of fifth spot with Cara Baker.

Arevalo will face No. 14 seed Gabriella Anastasi while Chabon battles No. 11 Jamie Binns in the other match-up tomorrow. - AMD, GMA News
