Chalk up another win for the old man.

Frankie Miñoza, more than a decade older than his peers, pulled off another stunner in the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour, after he defeated some fancied rivals, including Angelo Que, Antonio Lascuna and Elmer Salvador, at the P1-million Pueblo de Oro Championship in Cagayan de Oro.

Miñoza wrapped up his second straight title by firing a flawless five-under-par 67 for a 198 total and earned another P200,000 prize as champion. His 18-under-par overall was easily his best in history in a 54-hole tournament and one of the lowest in the five-year local tour.

His five-under 67 included five birdies as a result of solid irons and wonderful putting. He opened with 67 then followed it up with course record eight-under-par 64 for a five-shot success over Salvador, who settled for runner-up honors with a 203 after a 67 that earned him P120,000.

The twin kill of the 52-year-old Miñoza will boost his confidence heading into the Senior British Open at the Royal Birkdale from July 25 to 28 in England.

Que kept the pressure on with a superb 33 at the front side that was spiked by an eagle on the seventh hole.  However, his bid took a nosedive when he bogeyed the 11th, a par-three.  His third place finish with 204 pocketed him P90,000.

Orlan Sumcad (68), the power hitter from Batangas, and Marvin Dumandan (66) shared fourth place with 207. Rufino Bayron (71-208) was solo sixth, while Dutchman Guido Van der Valk was at seventh spot with 65 for 209.

Lascuna carded a 70 for eight on 211. Benjie Magada (72), Jessie Balasabas (69), Mars Pucay (70) and dethroned champ Chucky Hong (72) were on 10th with 212s. - AMD, GMA News
