In a battle between two stacked line-ups, the Cagayan Rising Suns dismantled the Smart Net Spikers, 25-23 26-24 25-20, Monday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan, in the Shakey's V-League Open Conference.
Cagayan inflicted the first loss on Smart, sending the latter squad to 3-1, while improving their record to 2-0.
In the first set, the two squads were all tied up at 15-all, before the Rising Suns took charge late, going the distance from a tally of 21-20.
Smart looked on the way to equalizing things with a 22-19 tally in set two, but Cagayan went on to forge a 23-all deadlock, prior to coming out on top, 26-24.
With their backs to the wall, Smart went up 8-6 early, but a resilient Cagayan squad built a five-point advantage, 22-17, before wrapping this one up.
Team captain Maria Angeli Tabaquero led Cagayan with 15 markers, with Kannika Thipachot (14 points, all on spikes) and Aizo Maizo (13 points, 12 spikes) ably backing her up.
Maruja Banaticla notched 15 points to equal Tabaquero's output, but no other Net Spiker could also contribute double-digit scoring. - AMD, GMA News
