MMA: Malaysia’s Ann Osman challenges Sherilyn Lim at ONE FC: Total Domination.
On October 18, all eyes will be one Sherilyn Lim at ONE FC: Total Domination. Lim will be making her professional mixed martial arts (MMA) debut in front of an adoring Singaporean crowd. She has promised to steal the show but a brave Malaysian challenger with an equally interesting back story is out to spoil Lim’s party.
Ann Osman fights out of Borneo Tribal Squad in Kota Kinabalu. She will be the first female mixed martial artist to represent Malaysia in Asia's largest mixed martial arts organization. Coached by ONE FC featherweight standout AJ "Pyro" Lias Mansor, Osman aims to represent not only her gym but her entire country as she takes on Singapore’s MMA darling.
“I’ve always been a bit of an adrenaline junky with my outdoor and adventure sports, so when I saw AJ Pyro’s Muay Thai and MMA classes and tried them out, it all just clicked for me,” said Osman. Now what was once a hobby turned into a possible career.
Holding a Diploma in Computer Science from Shahputra College, Osman holds a day job in the property industry but after work, it’s all about MMA for her. She credits the treatment she gets from her teammates as one of the reasons why she kept on going.
“My team doesn’t treat me differently because I am a female,” she said. “We spar with the guys just like we do the other girls on the team.” Right now, Osman is training hard for her professional debut but she’s also enjoying the attention being given to her and her opponent by the MMA fans. “I think because my opponent, Sherilyn, and I are two of the few women fighting pro in the region, we are getting really great support from everyone,” she added.
Outside training, Osman maintains her active lifestyle. Whenever she has free time, she enjoys sea kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, and running. But after all of those activities, Osman, like other women her age, enjoys getting pampered by going to spas. But all of that will have to take the backseat for Osman. “ONE FC is the ultimate destination for MMA fighters, so when they offered me the fight on October 18 it was a dream come true for me,” she said. “I’ll do my best to represent all of the female MMA fighters in Asia.” - GMA News
