The Cagayan Valley Rising Suns endured a five-set challenge from Smart-Maynilad, emerging victorious, 25-21 22-25 25-19 17-25 15-13, on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The victory kept Cagayan Valley on top of the standings with a perfect 8-0 record. Smart-Maynilad on the other hand fell back to .500 with a 4-4 card.
Cagayan's Kannika Thipachot and Smart's Alyssa Valdez canceled each other out with 22 points apiece in the see-saw battle.
Three more Cagayan players posted double figures, as team captain Angeli Tabaquero had 13, while Aiza Maizo and Wenneth Eulalio chipped in 11 each.
Kesinee Lithawat added 15 for Smart, while Grethcel Soltones had 11.
It was an even battle the whole way, with Cagayan barely edgeing Smart in spikes (56-53) and blocks (9-6). Smart had an upper hand in service aces (11-8). - RAF, GMA News
