The Smart-Maynilad Net Spikers inflicted just the second loss on the Philippine Army, though they needed the full five sets to get there, 25-18 22-25 25-23 20-25 15-13, Friday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, in the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference quarterfinals.

Smart-Maynilad moved up to third place with a 5-4 record, moving past 4-5 Air Force, while Army remained in solid command of second place, thanks to their 7-2 record.

The two teams traded sets back-and-forth, but Smart-Maynilad took the first and the last, as well as the win.

Guest player Lithawat Kesinee led all scorers with 23 points, 19 via spikes, for the Roger Gorayeb-coached Smart squad. Alyssa Valdez added 20, as the two were the only Net Spikers in double-figures.

Army got two players with 19 markers, Rachel Anne Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga. Team captain Joanne Buang and Mary Jean Balse added 11 apiece. - AMD, GMA News
