The Philippine Army had just enough in their arsenal to edge the Philippine Air Force in three sets, beating their Armed Forces rivals 26-24 29-27 25-1 on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, in the best-of-three battle for third place series of the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference.
Army, which took finalists Smart-Maynilad to a game three in the semifinals, had just enough to pull off a three-set sweep, though each set was tightly-contested.
Jovelyn Gonzaga led the way for Army with 15 points, including a quarter of her side's 40 spikes. Mary Jean Balse and Rachel Anne Daquis added 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
Army also benefitted from a 9-4 edge in points off blocks, and an 11-5 margin in service aces.
Joy Cases managed a game-high 19 points for Air Force, all but two coming off spikes. Iari Yongco scored 13, while Judy Ann Caballejo totaled 11. - AMD, GMA News
