Sherilyn Lim talks to the media at ONE FC: Total Domination
Singapore – In one of the most-awaited fights in Asian mixed martial arts, Singapore’s Sherilyn Lim defeated Malaysia Ann Osman by split decision in an exciting fight, Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium at ONE FC: Total Domination.
Lim’s hand was raised victorious in front of her adoring crowd, which also showed a lot of love for Osman as she exited the cage.
“At any point if I panicked, I would have lost,” Lim said after the fight. “I wasn’t afraid of her takedowns because I knew what to do”
The first round was all about Osman taking down Lim at will, but the Singaporean did land knees while they were on the clinch. Lim landed more knees in the second round and even score a takedown, followed by a vicious ground-and-pound attack.
Lim completed a double-leg takedown to start the third round but Osman was able to reverse it and get a full mount. Lim then slowly worked her way out of the position as she ended up on top inside Osman’s guard. The Singaporean landed heavy punches on the ground but Osman reversed the position to regain the full mount.
The two were then stood up and they proceeded to exchange heavy leather to end the fight and send the crowd into a frenzy.
“That’s their decision. I can’t do anything about that. All I know is that I gave it my all,” said Osman after the fight. “I just hope I made my country proud. I hope we broke barriers and opened doors tonight for all the women who want to try MMA.”
The night opened with a fight between Marc Marcellinus from Malaysia and Stephen Langdown from Singapore. Very early in the fight, Langdown caught Marcellinus with a vicious low blow that halted the bout momentarily. When the fight resumed, Langdown caught his foe off-balance with a knockdown via leg kick. The Singaporean then landed a knee to the body, followed by hammer fists on the ground, which prompted the referee to stop the fight at the 1:49 mark of the first round.
This was followed by another win for Singapore as model/actor Juan Wen Jie disposed of his Malaysian foe Alex Lim in the second round, as the Singaporeans swept the Malaysians in the first three fights of the night. - AMD, GMA News
