After picking up a title, a new course record, and renewed confidence, things still feel surreal for Rufino Bayron a few days after his triumph in the ICTSI Orchard Championship at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmarinas, Cavite.

“It is incredible and unbelievable.  Four years of hard work paid off. I hope it would be first of many,” said Bayron, whose first championship happened at Orchard’s Palmer course over the weekend.

Bayron’s win was special because he did it against a slew of charging foreigners and past local champions, including three-time Asian Tour champ Angelo Que, who could not string together four good rounds.

That enabled Bayron, thrice runner-up in the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour, to win a check worth $10,5000 from the $60,000 Asian Development Tour event, the second one after the Riviera Challenge last week.

Bayron posted a winning total of 16-under-par 272. He also fired a course record 10-under 62 in the weather-delayed second round, eclipsing the previous mark of 63 by Juvic Pagunsan.

Japanese Tomokazu Yoshinaga made full use of his sponsor’s invite by placing second with 276 after a 71.  Filipino-Aussie RJ Caracella (68) and Japan’s Masaru Takahashi (70) were tied for third with 278.
