It was a day of heartbreak for the stalwarts of Team Philippines on Sunday in the Asian Games.

The country remained without a medal as athlete after athlete fell to the wayside in the second day of competition.

In judo, the country's bets were eliminated, with Gilbert Ramirez and Kiyomi Watanabe failing to reach the medal stages.

Ramirez yielded a 110-0 result to in the round-of-16 of the men's 73-kg.

Watanabe advanced past Gulnar Gulnar Hayytbayeva of Turkmenistan in the round-of-16 of the women's 73-kg, but fell to Kana Abe of Japan, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.

Her medal hopes ended after falling to Marian Urdabayeva of Kazakhstan in the repechage.

In rowing, the duo of Alvin Amposta and Roque Abala finished fifth in men's double sculls. The pair, however, still has a chance to get back into the medal picture when it competes in the repechage.

In trap shooting, Hangen Alexander Topacio (28th) and Eric Ang (37th) bowed out of the 46-man field.

In swimming, Olympian Jessie Khing Lacuna topped his heat in the men's 200-m freestyle, but his time was not enough to qualify for the final race..

In artistic gymnastics, Reyland Capellan did not advance after ranking 50th overall in the men's individual qualification.

In tennis, the men's and women's tennis teams also suffered heavy defeats. The men's side of Treat Huey, Patrick Tierro, and Ruben Gonzales Jr. lost to Chinese Taipei, 2-1, while the women's side of Denise Dy and Katharina Lehnert was plastered by host South Korea, 3-0. — JST, GMA News
