The Philippines continues its search for its first-ever gold medal in the Asian Beach Games after sending off its delegation to Phuket, Thailand on Friday.
"We’re always hopeful that we can bring home more medals compared to the last beach games," said Philippine chief of mission Richard Gomez
"But again, this is sports. It’s hard to make promises."
The Philippines will send 77 athletes and 24 officials in 16 disciplines to the competition, which runs from November 14 to 23.
Philip Delarmino and Jonathan Polosan, medalists in the Southeast Asian Games, are expected to carry the fight in muay. Billy Joseph Ang will contend in jetski, while Geylord Coveta is a favorite in RS Class windsurfing.
Melissa Jacob of the women's 3x3 basketball squad will be the country's flag-bearer.
"We're positive that our athletes will give their best to win those medals," said Philippine Olympic Committee 1st vice president Joey Romasanta.
The Philippines has won a total of four silver medals and 10 bronzes since the inaugural Games in Bali in 2008. — JST, GMA News
